Slip, Sliding Away

There is a song from my era with those words in it and they are the appropriate words to describe the East Enders season. We got trounced as a team 2-9 last night, this despite Don pegging 120 and Ron hitting a 171! Ron went on to lose his singles 0-2 and Don and Ant went on to lose their doubles 1-2. the only saving grace for the night was the fact Ant found form and won in his triples ( with Don and Ralph) and his singles 2-0. The rest of the night was a series of close games in which we failed every chance we had of having a winning peg. A few of the games went to the decider but in none of those were we successful. Perhaps the title should be pegless and legless!
The supper provided by the Gambier Hotel was the best we have had this year and a credit to the Hotel, small solace for the group of ladies that came along to support their men and found them lacking!
Oh well we have a chance next week to redeem ourselves and there is a practice night at my place on Wednesday. Ron and Chris are coming up and Don too , maybe Ralph as well. Martin will be on arvo shift as he was on Monday and we missed him playing at the top although I doubt he could have influenced that many games!
Owing to work commitments the white knight from Melbourne will be unavailable for the rest of the season and I am not planning on being in the grand final yet. What's that they say...."One week at a time"!
