Country Footy is Alive

So as there was no one home to stop me... Nuran is in Melbourne... I went to Nangwarry this afternoon to see a game of football. Trevor Fenn, who I worked with some 5 years ago when he played his 300th game, was playing his 400th A grade game. So I ventured up and met some of the blokes I used to work with and some of the blokes I used to play darts with and against and some of the blokes that used to play footy when Tarpeena had a team. A good social occasion.
It was a good tight game of footy and Nangwarry won with the last kick of the game, a shot after the siren that touched hands but still dropped over the line! A win by a point. So Trevor could celebrate his milestone game and Tantanoola could go home with their tails between their legs. Which is appropriate as they are known as the tigers!
This being a batchelor is alright except my messages are up to 171 and that's only since Nuran was left behind and the ironing still needs to be done. Maybe tomorrow! the washing is easy, the cooking is easy, the house cleaning is easy but the bloody ironing.... it leers at me every morning.
Tomorrow is mothers day so as my mothers day present to Nuran I shall do the bloody ironing! or on Monday....

I'M Back

I picked up the repaired trail bike from Bernie, yesterday, and what a difference from the heap of crap John and I have been riding through the Pines! If having road tyres make such a difference then it's a priority for John who has the same heavy lugged tyres on his bike in Melbourne as are on the so called H.O.C. But I think the fact that Bernie put new bearings in the crank case and a new derailleur on Jim's old bike has made a big difference too. Although, it must be said, the road tyres glide along so easily that maybe that's the biggest difference. Anyway I could keep up with Banjo and zip around the longer circuit chasing 'roos and emus along the way and not come home feeling like I have pushed a wheelbarrow up Mount Gambier. This time it was Banjo that was buggered as he had to maintain a healthy pace all the way if he wanted to stay in front of me. And he does always want to be in front, the best fun is sneaking up to him on my now quiet machine and putting in a spurt to head him but at the moment you get level he lays his ears back and changes up a cog himself and scoots ahead 20 yards or so with his tail in the air. With the aforementioned H.O.C I couldn't even get a head of speed up as the faster I went the deeper the tyres cut into the sand and the more crap got flung up in my face from the front wheel. This meant that Banjo never had to do more than a long lope to keep ahead. Times have changed now though.
Thank heaven for Bernie- bike mechanic extraordinaire I wonder if he can make a silk purse out of a sows ear or more to the point a speed machine out of my H.O.C?

Darting around

the season is two matches old and we are the UNDEFEATED CHAMPIONS OF THE ...well League. Not exactly the world. But important nonetheless. the first game went down to the last singles of the night and in fact the last game of the night played by our most inexperienced player, Chris. But nonetheless he showed rock solid nerves and pegged the last game on double top to give us the 6-5 (sets) win. And this was against a team I think will end up in the top four and our best player Ron was absent. Of course best players are ones that normally beat me. Ron does that but couldn't win on Monday night mainly because he missed counted and pegged out double 2 when in fact he needed a score of 7. He had won his first game too. This rattled Ron and he went on to lose, getting the yips as they say in football. we were miles ahead as we had won the teams games 4-1 so it didn't matter. That is it didn't matter until Ralph lost and Chris lost. I had pushed Chris up as the opposition normally play their better players last but this time they didn't, cunning buggers.Don maintained his stellar form and creamed the opposition by pegging double 2 in both games! So it was down to either me or Ant to win our singles. We both won the first, I wired a 108 peg but took the double 18 out and Ant won his by getting a double 16 so we were on easy street until we both lost our next game. I don't know how he lost but I was creamed by a fluky arse that hit three different trebles in a row. Ant was a head and he won because I heard him say that takes the pressure off the old fart or words to that effect. Upon which the pressure went from me (too) and I pegged a 50 in two to ice the cake.
It was back slaps and handshakes all round and the team bonding continues.
So it's off to the Park next week and seeing as four of the side played summer darts there it is like another home game for us. Bring it on!
Go the Big E.
