Tradesman
Being a home handy man you get used to doing little things around the place , and big things sometimes, and if they don't come up to a tradesman standard then so what , it hasn't cost a tradesman's price. But there are some times when a tradesman is worth whatever he charges!
One is when the house fuses keep blowing as the circuits are all out of kilter and a fire starts in the fuse box. I got a tradesman up from town and the wiring was reset and replaced and since then no blown fuses , well only one when everything in the games room was going including a heater and everything in John's room was going, including the heater and then Nuran put on the heater in the sewing room. These rooms are on the same fuse and the circuit breaker tripped in protest!
The second is when you need a bit of plumbing work changed and it involves copper pipe. Silver soldering is not my forte. in fact no soldering is, so a plumber was called from the Mount to cut pipes and insert bits so that the water to the ensuite did not all go through the hotwater feed. The plumber did a good job and was worth the bill.
And now the third time is to lay a cement pad around the bore and in front of the games room so that you don't rick an ankle as you go through the gate and fall off the cement that Kevin and I laid some years ago. When you look at the job Kevin and I did you will know why I called in a tradesman this time.
The thing about a tradesman is they make it look all so easy and you get lured into a false security, thinking , "well maybe next time I could do that Job!" but that's the sign of a good tradesman! the guy we got to lay the cement was a top tradesman. A beautiful level pad and the pathway around the guest room was laid in less than 3 hours!
Not for him the endless dragging of a board to get the cement level and the floating off and putting bits in where the holes where and running out so you have to back fill the last bit with sand and leave the cement a bit thin!
No! Get it right, leave it and have a fag while the cement goes off! Float off the pad and collect the money! Beautiful. And worth every cent.
Now I can put the tool shed on the pad next to the bore, house the pump in a better designed cover than the last one was, put a fence across so the dogs are south of the games room and neaten up the whole area.
I've been meaning to do this since I retired but have never got around to it. Now it's done!
I think I will get a tradesman in to put up the feature wall in the kitchen!
