Football fever
Oh what a dreadful result for us when the Crows lost a tight final against the Hawks and are now out of the finals race. Why? you may ask knowing that I and John barrack for Geelong who are yet to play their final! Well Nuran the head cook and creator of fine cuisine of the Keenan household follows the Adelaide Crows and the result turned her off her food and ,worse , off cooking ours! That wouldn't have mattered if the meal had been steak or fish or sausages or roast all well with in my realm of expertise but it was casserole rabbit that was bubbling on the stove!
John said I knew we would be in trouble why didn't you roast the rabbit? But Nuran was confident in the team and had insisted on casseroling the bunnies, who was I to disagree even though I had some trepidation at the time.
Game over and Nuran decamped to her sisters place to get over the trauma of the close loss and the rabbit was left simmering, much like her actually. But thankfully she returned somewhat calmer and took over the cooking again, even though I manfully offered to switch it off and start a fresh meal and have the rabbit tomorrow with the "light as a feather" dumplings that complements the dish so well.
This wasn't so much chivalry as self indulgence, rabbit casserole and dumplings is a meal fit for a king and sausages and mash was a small price to pay for preserving the integrity of the dish.
But all was well that ended well, the rabbit turned out a treat, the dumplings soaked in the gravy were a gastronomic delight and the Crows are still out of the finals race!
Now for the Geelong game this afternoon and in true football fashion it will be a meat pie for tea.
Gotta have a pie at the footy!
Go Cats.
