Another burnout

Blow me down with a feather but the element in the hot water service burned out last night sometime so when I went in for an early shower there was no perishing hot water. First the computer, actually first Tony's old computer, then the main computer and now the hot water element! There is nothing worse than expecting a nice hot shower and have the hot water disappear just when you are wet. No matter how hard you screw the taps, hot on- cold off, the water gets colder and colder. So you soap yourself vigorously and very bloody quickly all the while getting more and more goose bumps to wash. Those things that usually get longer in a nice hot shower shrink so that they cant be washed and the whole episode ends when the last bit of soap goes off your body and you can at last step out. Far from being warm and fuzzy you become stiff and cold and only a brisk towelling gets you warm again.
Lucky mobile phones have been invented and a call to our plumber found him going past with a spare element and thermostat in his ute. Ten minutes after the phone call he was here and 10 minutes to do the job. Bloody marvellous. A small win at last, I bet the computer takes longer to fix!
Another marvel of technology was used last night. We streamed Radio Fiji2 through the computer and, using this new USB gadget that transmits an FM radio signal from the speakers, we were able to here the late night request show from Fiji in the games room. I made a note of the number and dialled it and lo and behold got through! Nuran requested a song and to send a greeting and it was duly played on air! It was as if we were on Bhabi's back veranda in Fiji listening to the radio! Blooming marvellous what can happen nowadays.
So although its a perishing nuisance when they break down modern gadgets do bring a new element to life! Ha Ha ... the pun was intended.
