An event

You know I hate this modern jargon that adds words to make something seem more important. Keith Martyn on TV says a rain event what a crock of shit... it used to be just rain. Now it's " there will be a rain event over the state"Bullshit! Just as stupid as "at the end of the day" what the **** is that! Does it mean this evening or tonight and does it means that whatever they are talking about will only happen on a particular day? Hey people what about "the outcome is " or better still "the result is ". We have all this polite speak so that no one gets offended and I agree with the writer who said it's all about taking individuality away from people and making them all alike! No one can use a term that may be perceived as derogatory by a thin skinned misfit even if it has been in use in the English language for years and never in a derogatory way. And you can only have a coloured person well hey white is a colour too so coloured person signifies nothing. And you cant have a gender any more not a doorman but a door person not a policeman but a ...what have they invented for police people?
Anyway talking about the predicted rain, well down here it has been a non event!

Tuesday Talk

John and I went down for darts last night. John enjoyed himself and won all his games, he has now signed up for the Park Rangers, being head hunted by the captain, and against my old team with Ron in it. It was a practice night for that grade. I played at the same venue in Div2 as our season started before the lower grades. I at last pegged a game and won our triples stood out in the doubles and got flogged in the singles. Never even made it to a double in the single game. I bet I stand out next week! John will be playing at a different venue for the first couple of weeks then our draws line up and we shall both be playing at the Park on the same night which will make the transport arrangement easier. I have sold one of my spare darts to the next door neighbours son, Bryan, who is also in the Park Rangers team. Have to get the money from him but I know where he lives!
trolley coverNuran has been busy making covers for dog trolleys. You may ask what a dog trolley is and its for carting show dogs around at shows and displaying them. See the pictures of a covered dog trolley!
Have a look at the pictures of a couple of dogs that should be in a show. the picture of health and stupidity the pair of them.
We had a good ride around the Pines today under complete control all the time and now John has gone out again on the bike and they are out with him. No wonder Banjo looks like a greyhound.Still they are fit, like marathon runners.the dogs
The fine weather seems endless and its shorts on again, I will spare you a picture of me in shorts! Trouble is the tank which supplies water to the house is constantly running to empty without the rain we usually get and I shall have to fire up the Bore pump again this afternoon.
It looks like it will be a late night tonight as the cricket semi finals are on. It depends whether the runs flow freely as to how late I stay up. I can get up early and see the end but the last time I tried that the game had been over for two hours and I could have stayed in bed. That's the trouble with cricket you never know how tight the contest is going to be and how long it will last for.
There could be a few late nights in a row as the European Soccer is into the semifinals stage God it's hard to prioritise things ain't it!
Tomorrow is a public holiday for Anzac Day and Jim is in the Sydney Parade and Pay TV has the Sydney ABC on relay so I shall see tomorrow if I can glimpse him marching before the big football game starts!

Monday and the Geelong Blues

Ron and darts
I have been admonished for not reporting that I managed to beat Ron, my mate, at darts when he came up Friday. But this is because I am used to beating him and not for politely declining to gloat over my success. Teamed with Ron we beat John and Roxy in a tight struggle and then teamed with John we beat Ron and Roxy also in a closely fought contest.
Talking about closely fought contests the Hawthorn versus Geelong game went down to the wire and Hawthorn once again came out on top. As they normally do. I got over my disappointment by furiously going for a bike ride. Why is it that in tight battles 99% of the time Geelong are on the losing end? Is it the coach, yes, is it the senior players lack of intensity, yes, is it because that's the type of laconic good country boys they recruit, definitely yes. Alright that we have disciplined our sharp shooter Johnson for six weeks for getting drunk again but boy would he have been a better option than the midget we played (Byrnes) who is the only jockey going around in the AFL and who cant kick with either foot... why is he in the AFL? Because he is the only person smaller in the side than the coach and makes the coach feel tall...... I think. He can run, Byrnes, but since when do sprinters that could fit under a table standing up get to play football in the AFL? And the only hand pass that King put on target was the one that found the chest of the opposition rover and let him score a goal breaking the game open when we holding a nice lead. King is tall and stupid Byrnes is small and stupid and the coach is just stupid! See I am still frustrated.
Anyway John's new darts arrived this morning at last but are no good so after a weeks wait they have to be returned. Pity as he was going to use them tonight, given the opportunity, in a practice game at the same venue in which I am playing a competition game as he can get a ride down but will have to use his old darts or my old darts now.
I also got a new set of flights but they are no good so its back to my old ones!
Got to keep trying to improve though.
Monday apart from being darts day is also washday and the washing is billowing on the line nicely. Nice having a cup of coffee on the back verandah watching the washing dry and the grass grow. Great life ain't it! I have done all I want except shoot regular 180's and watch Geelong win a premiership and time is running out for both so I may as well enjoy the washing drying eh!

Whats this -Rain?

Living in the driest part of the driest State of the driest Continent, as we are at the moment, it is with surprise that I woke to the sound of rain on the roof.Only a drizzly light rain, but rain at last.
Normally Tarpeena would be in the wettest part of South Australia but the global warming phenomena, if you can believe the climatologists, means that parts well into the desert areas are receiving inches of rainfall whilst we languish here with plenty of underground water but none in the tanks! Still it did rain for a little while today and more is predicted on Thursday. Anzac Day is on Wednesday and that usually signifies the break in the seasons so perhaps the Thursday prediction is one based on historical facts rather than meteorological data.
Anyway the dogs decided that they had had enough of being obedient and raced off after a Kangaroo in the Pines this morning and as it was raining I thought "stuff them, let them get wet not me" and came home for breakfast.
John and Roxie were up earlier than usual, actually John was up earlier as Roxie is always an early riser as they are off to the local horse cross country meeting to see the end of the eventing. This in when horses are put over jumps and riders are put into the water if the horse chooses to not to get its feet wet. It's good fun seeing someone getting dumped off a horse. They have a tradition of downing a bottle of red and munching on curry egg sandwiches whilst viewing the horses. Just as well its all out in the open air with the gastric mixing of such volatile ingredients.
Nuran also got up early probably the sound of the eggs boiling woke her, she slept soundly last night after her football team , the Crows , ground out a hard fought win last night and I slept well too as I refused to watch any late night cricket matches. My turn to get uptight over a football game comes at lunchtime when Geelong (my team) takes on Hawthorn(Jim's team) down in Tasmania. Hawthorn play a few of their "home" games in Tasmania to generate extra support and to make the opposition teams completely bored and supporterless . Tasmania is a very small place and the games are played not in the capital, Hobart, but Launceston just to make it worse for the opposition! But I won't make excuses before the game starts, just that Hawthorn always seem to beat Geelong no matter where the game is played!
Now the sun is out and the showers have passed so it's off off and away on the trusty bike to see if the dogs have had enough chasing ephemeral kangaroos and are ready to be obedient again.
